hillary clinton be presented with an offer she can't refuse? >>> very good morning to you, i'm veronica de la cruz. right now residents in the midwest are waking up to some of the heaviest snowfall they've seen in two months. a low moving storm dumped more than a foot. 150 flight cancellations and delays at minneapolis st. paul airport. nbc meteorologist bill karins has been tracking those storms. it looks bad. >> impressive. ten inches in minneapolis. winter has arrived and in a big way through the middle of the country. the wind chills are brutal this morning. all of this mess is now sliding to the east coast. thankfully not the snow and ice. the storm itself is actually located over lower michigan heading up towards just north of buffalo. these storms in the winter that track up into canada drag warmer air to the east coast. that's why we're not worried about a big snow or ice storm on the eastern seaboard. it's going to be warm enough for severe thunderstorms, maybe damaging hail and wind. watching areas of alabama and northern georgia. twa warm air up the east coast. all the cold air

're heading out, it's cold out there. meteorologist veronica johnson has your forecast. >> it is cold out there. as soon as the game ended, it seemed like the temperatures started dropping really fast. out there this morning, we have temps that are in the 20s, folks. in the 20s in the northern and western suburbs. even d.c. at 29 degrees. still a little bit of a wind left at 5 miles per hour after that gusty day that we had yesterday. current windchill reading at 24 degrees right now. look at the readings throughout the area. lay tensville, maryland at 28 degrees. springfield, virginia, 21 right now. 27 degrees over in buoy, maryland. we do have some cloud cover in the area. it's a partly cloudy sky. we're going to turn mostly cloudy later today. we're even talking about the possibility of a few sprinkles, maybe a flurry well up around the maryland/pennsylvania border. that will come from this system here that's going to congeal across the ohio valley. for your morning commute, a cold start. 26 to 32. by lunchtime today, 37 to 42 degrees. not a bad day. i think for the most part we will b

meteorologist veronica johnson with the forecast. >> hey, keith. another round of snow changing to rain. we're at 38 degrees as far as today goes it will stay dry. your temperature warming to 43 to 44 degrees. call that cool. a lot less wind around the area today as well. as we look at storm team 4 radar, two areas of low pressure. one producing snow to the north and the other a lot of moisture down south around memphis and areas of tupelo, mississippi, right now. all those counties shaded in purple is where there's a winter storm advisory and the snow is sticking a bit longer. two to four inches of snow expected up here with slippery conditions and the snow will start tomorrow morning around 2:00 to 3:00 a.m. it will be shutting off and moving east by the time we get to 4:00. other areas south of here is where it will mix in with rain. we'll talk about the timing of this storm system, more for your neighborhood and the extended forecast that includes new year's eve in a couple minutes. keith? >> see you in a few. >>> a check of our mid day traffic. mike cremedas in for danella. hey, mike.

, good morning to you. i'm veronica de la cruz. right now residents in the midwest are waking up to the heaviest snow in months. highway closures and around 150 flight cancelations and delays at minneapolis, st. paul's airport, this morning. bill karins tracking the weather. what does it look like now? >> old man winter crashed the party this weekend. without a doubt. we were off to a warm period of weather throughout the country. now all the cold air up in canada and alaska has rushed to the south behind the storm. most of the snow was over with. light stuff and flurries minneapolis, green bay, light snow left for you. but the big story is the cold air that's behind this. if you're shoveling or snowplowing, it's miserable. the storm is heading east. instead of going due east or redeveloping off the coast, it's heading to quebec. it's dragging warm air up the eastern seaboard. it's only extreme northern portions of vermont, new hampshire, and all of the state of maine that we have to deal with ice and snow during the morning. i think maine especially around augusta, i-95, you'll

on this new year's eve. it's nice to see you this morning. i'm veronica de la cruz. we begin with secretary of state hillary clinton in the hospital. clinton was admitted to new york presbyterian hospital after the discovery of a blood clot stemming from the concussion she sustained earlier this month. the clot was discovered during a followup exam sunday. she's being treated with blood thinners, and doctors will monitor the medication over the next two days. the 65-year-old clinton fell and suffered a concussion when she fainted while home alone in mid-december as she recovered from a stomach virus that left her severely dehydrated. clinton had been planning to return to work this week. >>> it is crunch time on capitol hill. senate and house negotiators have just a few crucial hours left to come up with a compromise to avert the looming financial mess. if they don't, here's what's going to happen -- everyone's tax rates will go up. $1.2 trillion in federal spending cuts kick in. the federal tax holiday will expire. the alternative minimum tax kicks in, and several tax deductions expire, as

for the weekend. veronica johnson is here for the forecast. >> seems like we got rid of one storm and another one is moving in. starting right after midnight. temperature outside right now, 38 degrees reagan national. your windchill at 30. so we lost a lot of the high winds but still enough wind out there to bring down that windchill reading. you can see the winds currently. at about 5 to 10 miles per hour across our area. that's kind of where they're going to stay today. as far as temperatures go right now, benning at 33 degrees. areas right in d.c. there at 37. high atsville at 32 degrees. aspen hill in montgomery county, coming in currently at 34 degrees. windchill ratings are low throughout the area. reading between 26 and 30 degrees. so bundle up if you will be going out. as far as where that storm system is that we're expecting, two areas of low pressure coming together. one producing light snow around areas of southern minnesota, the other producing rain around arkansas. the two will bring snow into the area starting about 2:00, 3:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. not bad today. 36 to 41 degrees,

december reality. >> would you look at that. veronica has a look at another change coming our way. what about it, veronica? >> do you like that sunset? isn't that gorgeous? >> it's lovely. >> fiery red there on the horizon. and not a bad day. the wind picked up a bit. that northwesterly wind behind the cold front that came through very early this morning. high temps in fact for today, 60 degrees. that was at 5:00 a.m. we now stand in the mid-50s. pretty much falling temps all day. now 55 degrees. trinidad, and good afternoon to you folks in tyson's corner. up north, already in the 40s. kensington at 48, with temperatures dropping. and these winds have been rocking us today out of the northwest. still at 20-mile-per-hour gusts. those will be settling down. as that happens, it's going to get cold. subfreezing temperatures due by tomorrow morning. we're going to see the numbers really drop during the overnight period. and then they're going to arrive this weekend. but this weekend isn't going to be all grand because we've got something else to deal with. i'll have the details coming up. >>

. very merry christmas to you. good morning. i'm veronica de la cruz. parts of the country are waking up to a white christmas. a nasty weather system col whip up dangerous conditions in the southeast. dylan dreyer has been tracking the storm for us. >> it's a little bit of everything. we are looking at a severe storm certainly possible. we've already had a tornado warning posted down through northern acadia parish in louisiana since lifted. but we are going to see more severe weather break out with a good chance of seeing some potential for tornados. we also have snow falling all across new england right now. heaviest in upstate new york. we still have the win themy mix back through the hartford area. we also stloe to keep an eye out for these storms where we do have a severe thunderstorm watch posted and eventually will see severe thunderstorm warnings get issued i'd say all across louisiana. all of those flashes of light, that's the cloud to ground lightning we're seeing. very strong storms back through louisiana and northeastern texas, as well. you go further north. we have winter wea
